Cosworth to offer GT86 and BRZ tuning packages Engineering company Cosworth has announced a range of tuning packages for the Toyota GT86 or Subaru BRZ. Details here

Cosworth has confirmed that its first ever ‘Power Package’ for the Subaru BRZ, Toyota GT-86 and Scion FR-S is on sale. Available in three stages of tune, the most aggressive form can increase standard output from 197bhp to 380bhp.

The legendary Northamptonshire engineering firm has chosen to release Stage One first, though even this least potent stage of tuning features a raft of upgrades to bring power up to 230bhp. Helping the FA-20 2-litre naturally aspirated four-pot breathe more freely is a new free-flow stainless-steel exhaust, that pokes out of the rear bumper with two 4inch inch, diagonally cut tips.

The business end of the exhaust comes at the manifold however, where a 4-2-1 thermally coated header features CNC matched exhaust flanges and even equal length piping – something normally reserved for far more exotic machinery. A significant 22 per cent of weight reduction has been achieved with this manifold, as well as the ability to keep temperatures under the bonnet far lower than the standard, more restrictive system could ever manage.

Cosworth will also add a performance filtration solution and low temp thermostat to work alongside a ‘Power by Cosworth’ calibration kit and remap, ensuring the easier breathing exhaust is able to offer maximum performance across the rev-band. This should ensure the standard car’s 0-60 time of 7.5sec will be cut substantially, with its 140mph top speed undoubtedly rising too. This could help bring the Japanese sports car closer to the class above, a segment that features one of our favourite sports cars, the Porsche Cayman.

And with promise of a 325bhp and even 380bhp in racing configuration, Cosworth’s Performance Packages look set to become some of the most capable upgrades of their type. Using this package structure also enables customers to break down the stages of their tuning, helping to stagger costs.

Not just drivers of Subaru BRZs, Toyota GT-86s or Scion FR-Ss will benefit either, because Cosworth plans to bring packages of similar structure to the market for several other performance cars this year. This comes as part of a larger plan to shift focus from individual performance components to complete engineering packages, as Cosworth aims to revolutionise its market position.

"New Toyota GT86 2016 will most probably get an improved version of its current 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine"
